In the seventies we got at school handcraft and hand work lessons. Manual work or handcraft lessons were mostly building, carpentry, claying and sawing. During hand work lessons we were taught about sewing, knitting, crochet, macramé and embroidery. In elementary school were both lessons split between boys and girls, in high school the lessons weren’t given separately anymore but the focus was more on handcraft lessons. Now the lesson is mostly called fine arts.
Crochet was very fashionable in the 1970s. We can surely all remember square or round patches for hot pans. Just as the large crochet bedspreads with colorful patches that were connected to each other.
But there were not only crochet bedspreads and cushions but especially garments. Vests and hats. I never had a hat but a vest though. Black with bright colors.
For years I have not heard anything about crochet until it came back in the fashion industry. The patches for hot pans are somewhat disappeared but we see the crochet bedspreads everywhere. Also stuffed animals. Beautiful colors and great fun for the little ones. I started to make little crochet Christmas hangers from the Hema. Fun to try out.
Until I discovered niche crochet garments as new fashion item. Not just a shawl but dresses, sweaters and vests. Super hip and fashionable. If you are looking for a new hobby then crochet is absolutely recommended. You have to concentrate on stitches such as chainstitch, slipstitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet so you can downshift. And you’ll see quickly that there’s something beautiful in your hands. What crochet makes especially joyful is the variation in products that you can make. You can also start looking for a crochet course or crochet club nearby. In our town there is this store Wollstreet where you can find the most beautiful colors wool and yarn and crochet courses are given.
In the spring show of Tommy Hilfinger were many crochet garments. For the Autumn and Fall season I have started looking for fun items that you can find below.
Beautiful colorful crochet clothes.
